Invition to comment on the provisional agenda of the 2017 Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction
The Government of Mexico and the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction will host the 2017 Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction, from 22-26 May 2017 in Cancun, Mexico, with 22-23 May as informal preparatory days and 24-26 May as the Global Platform’s official programme.
The 2017 Global Platform follows the Third UN World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction, held in Japan in 2015, which adopted the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030. It will be the first opportunity for States, the United Nations system, international organizations, civil society, the private sector, the science community and other stakeholders to monitor progress and identify measures to advance the implementation of the Sendai Framework.
Following the initial round of consultations on the 2017 Global Platform substantive aspects last May-June with Member States (through the Support Group) and stakeholders (through the online Dialogue), the provisional agenda for the GP that incorporates comments received so far is now ready.
The provisional agenda was circulated to Member States for inputs on 8 August. We would like also to invite you as a stakeholder to comment on it by 29 August.
Please note the short turn around as the programme needs to be finalized by early September.
We are also pleased to inform you that the official registration to attend the Global Platform is now open online.
Please see the agenda documents below. More information on the preparations of the 2017 Global Platform is available at www.unisdr.org/conferences/2017/globalplatform.
Looking forward to hearing your feedback. Please write to wannous (at) un.org
